Description
The second issue in the series, commemorating the men and companies who created the American Automotive Hi-Performance Industry. These inventive and often colorful individuals took their love of speed and built the fastest cars of their day.
The name Ed Iskenderian is a legend among racers worldwide. His life story parallels the proverbial Horatio Alger success stories, and the fulfillment of the American Dream.
He was born in 1921 in the grapevine country of Tulare County, California. His future as a wine maker never materialized because several heavy frosts destroyed the vineyards. In search of a better life, the Iskenderian family moved to Los Angeles.
Ed attended Polytechnic High School where he learned the fundamentals of mechanics by building souped-up Model T Fords. After high school, Ed obtained additional experience working as an apprentice tool and die maker. During this period he developed the skill and understanding of always striving for quality and perfection. A lesson which would pay dividends in the years to come.
