The United States Army is an esteemed institution of men and women whose goal is to be the most respected and powerful Army in the world, ready to defend the nation by springing into action at any time against other groups who pose a threat to the U.S. Becoming a member of the Army entails going through nine weeks of Basic Training, designed to provide a foundation for basic combat maneuvers and discipline. Comprised of intense classes, drills, ceremonies, weaponry techniques and physical conditioning, the trainees ultimately learn the Seven Army Core Values: loyalty, duty, respect, honor, integrity, personal courage and selfless service.

Next to the Marine Corps, the Army Basic Training program is the most physically intensive. The training is divided into three parts: Red Phase or Total Control in which a trainee practices doing only what is ordered by the Drill Sergeant, spending time in a gas chamber to test his or her strength and endurance, and learning to use his or her M-16 rifle. The White Phase or Gunfighter Phase consists of learning to use bayonets and anti-tank rifles. The Blue Phase or Warrior Phase is when a trainee completes the final physical test.

Trainees who are strong and can prove their endurance and commitment, continue onward to Advanced Individual Training and become part of the United States Army, the largest and most advanced military force in the world.
