Two of the most loathed anti-American forces in WWE history merged in 1984 when Iron Sheik teamed up with Nikolai Volkoff. After spending a year infuriating fans, the Iranian and Russian powerhouses faced their polar opposites at the inaugural WrestleMania Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo, known as the U.S. Express. Although the patriotic pair was heavily favored and a crowd favorite, during a chaotic moment in the match, Iron Sheik grabbed manager "Classy" Freddie Blassie's cane out of the view of the referee and struck Windham with it. Volkoff quickly pinned Windham to make the dastardly duo the new World Tag Team Champions.
