He began his rise to dominance in the NXT in 2015 and continued to climb through the ranks, solidifying his influence in April 2016 by defending his NXT Championship against Samoa Joe. Less than a month later, Balor lost this same title to Samoa Joe.

It came as little surprise when he was the first NXT graduate to be taken in the 2016 WWE brand extension draft, going 5th overall to RAW. Then, at Summerslam 2016, Balor reached his greatest achievement when he pinned Seth Rollins to become the first-ever WWE Universal Champion.
