Description

The 'Texaco 34' Grumman Goose was purchased from the Grumman Aircraft Corporation of Bethpage, New York in June 1940. The twin Pratt & Whitney Wasp Jr. radial engines delivered a top speed of 205 m.p.h. and a maximum range of 1150 miles. Built for hard service and heavy loads with power to spare, the Goose handled rough waters gracefully despite its portly appearance.

This particular Goose was flown by the Texaco Louisiana-Arkansas Division of the Producing Department for the superintendent of the New Iberia District in southwestern Louisiana. In 1942 it was assigned to replace an older Goose in the Houma District, where it continued to serve until sold in 1948.
