Description
Built in 1938, M3 Scout Car was one of the first armored trucks of World War II. It was originally based on a commercial truck chassis. A heavy metal armored truck held together with steel brackets and heavy armored screws including metal flooring, it was made to carry a crew of eight with room and compartments for gear and ammunition.
Used primarily by the US Army, scout cars had strong presence in North Africa, Italy and Western Europe.
This versatile workhorse could be set up in many configurations. This version has a 'gun rail' that extends around the top of the vehicle. With this rail, the .50 cal machine gun, or water cooled .30 cal machine gun can be maneuvered to any side of the vehicle, ready to deal with any threat. This feature enabled crews to rapidly slide the weapons into place.
Extremely popular under the 'Lend-Lease' program, the M3 Scout Car saw action with US, British, and Russian forces. After the war, it saw continued service for many countries, such as Israel, Brazil and others.
