Description
1922, an aspiring young comedian was called out of the audience during a comedy show to help out a childhood friend whose regular partners had just walked out. That friend was Moe Howard, who ad-libbed a hilarious routine that had the crowd roaring with laughter. Unknowingly, Moe was setting the stage for what would eventually become an act known as The Three Stooges.
A few years later, Moe was joined by another comedian, Larry Fine, then his younger brother Jerome "Curly" Howard, and the trio performed the wild, exaggerated antics of cartoon charac-ters, only live. Before long, everyone was going Stooge-crazy.
The Three Stooges were discovered by Hollywood in 1933 and made 190 movie shorts and six feature films that spanned almost five decades. Moe the boisterous bully, Larry the ultimate middleman, and kooky Curly, flavored their wam-bam style of tomfoolery with uproarious sight gags, numerous one-liners and plenty of face slapping, eye poking and pie throwing. Their stories appealed to the masses, often making fun of social and political issues of the day, and employing distinctive methods of bringing even the most uppity character down to their level. Surprisingly, these underlying themes are still relevant in today's society.
It has been decades since The Three Stooges first stumbled their way onto the big screen, but these masters of disaster and sultans of slapstick continue to lure laughter from new generations of audiences around the world... and still remain the Kings of Comedy!
