The Filipina of old wore elegant Ternos to attend formal occasions. These formal attires were made from the finest Philippine fiber woven into expensive Jusi, Piña and Sinamay cloth. Some of these expensive ternos may even have elaborate embroidery while others would be adorned with sparkling beads. This is in contrast to the ethnic group like the Ifugaos from the Mountain Province who wore nature-inspired colorful costumes that are hand woven from indigenous materials as well.

Today, these ternos are still worn specially by those who belong to the higher echelons of society. But even then, only on very special occasion like state dinners.
