Description

A fierce warrior race, the Klingons were a dreaded enemy of the Federation for nearly a century. Though the Federation and the Klingon Empire ended formal hostilities with the Khitomer Accords, relations between the two galactic powers remain tenuous due to the aggressive nature of the Klingon spirit.

Klingon often show contempt for the weaker species, and seem to enjoy the revulsion other races have for Klingon ways. A favorite Klingon food, gagh is served and eaten live, a taste that many humans and other species find revolting. Participation in Klingon rituals often is the way to earn their respect.

Glory, honor and battle are intrinsic to Klingon culture. A Klingon is considered an adult the day he can first hold a blade. Warriors are expected to kill their Klingon commanding officers who are no longer capable of commanding with competence. This philosophy extends into Klingon political affairs, where contenders for power will often duel to the death. Even the simplest of disputes are settled by confrontation, although not all battles end in death.

According to myth, ancient Klingon warriors killed their gods a millennium ago. Klingons today worship the memory of Kahless the Unforgettable, perhaps the most formidable warriors in their history. Warriors believe that if they die with honor in battle, they will join Kahless in Stp-Vo-Kor, the Klingon afterworld.
