Description

On Stardate 1512.2, the U.S.S. Enterprise™ NCC-1701 was mapping stars in an uncharted sector when it encountered a warning buoy that blocked its path. When it began to emit lethal amounts of radiation, Captain Kirk ordered phasérs fired to destroy the object.

Shortly thereafter, a massive sphere-shaped vessel one mile in diameter confronted the Enterprise. Its commander, Balok, claimed that his ship was the Fesarius, flagship of the First Federation. When Spock tried to get a visual of Balok, the image showed a fearsome alien creature never before encountered.

The belligerent Balok threatened to destroy the Enterprise. Kirk bluffed by claiming that his ship's non-existent "corbomite device" would destroy the Fesarius in retaliation. After disabling Balok's pilot vessel, Kirk beamed aboard to discover that the alien creature was merely a puppet, and that Balok was really a childlike humanoid who posed no threat to anyone..
