Description

In 1954, a giant monster roared onto the Japanese screen, sending shockwaves through the global film industry. This was the first Godzilla film produced by Toho, a landmark work that poured all the special effects technology of the time into its creation.
Godzilla's unusual size, extraordinary power, and advanced special effects captivated people of all ages. Its popularity soared, and new series were produced one after another. Attractive monsters such as Mothra and King Ghidorah were also created, and before long, Godzilla had grown into a true "King of the Monsters," standing alongside the stars of the Showa era.
The series was temporarily interrupted in 1975 with "Terror of Mechagodzilla," but production resumed in 1984 with a fresh new look. More realistic storylines and elaborate designs, incorporating scientific accuracy, resulted in special effects works that surpassed the original in terms of impact. From "Godzilla vs. Biollante," released in 1989, under the direction of special effects director Koichi Kawakita, Godzilla's design became more biological. In addition to the basic suit, mechanical models with internal frames and suits for underwater swimming were used, tailored to the specific special effects techniques.
Since then, Godzilla has faced various formidable foes in the VS series. Meanwhile, its act of utterly destroying newly completed, prominent landmarks also became a topic of discussion and an indispensable element of Godzilla films.
Created by human error, Godzilla shows various facets, sometimes as an enemy, and sometimes as an ally. As of 2011, the Godzilla series comprises a total of 28 films, from the original "Godzilla" released in 1954 to "Godzilla Final Wars" released in 2004, and its iconic image remains deeply etched in the memories of people of all generations around the world.
