???????????? (Hello) I'm Russian Barbie. I live in Russia, the largest country in the world and a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States, formerly known as the Soviet Union. More than 150 million people live here, many of them in Moscow, the political, industrial and cultural capital of our country.

In Moscow, you must visit Red Square in the city center. Here you will see the Kremlin, once a fortress but now a cluster of buildings including museums, churches and government offices. The building you see in the picture with the minarets and tall golden spire is St. Basil's Church, built in the sixteenth century. To many, this symbolizes Russia more than any other site.

Our rich heritage and many ethnic groups create many beautiful crafts like a matrioshka, a group of hollow wooden dolls. As you open each doll, there is a smaller one inside. When you open the last doll, you can make a special wish!

My costume is one typically worn during a festival or wedding. My red tunic is trimmed with golden braid and worn over a white blouse. My skirt is trimmed with golden braid down the center and around the hem. My headpiece is a red and golden crown and my blonde hair is worn in a long, thick braid. Women in Russia are very proud of their braids!

When you visit my country, you will hear someone playing the balalaika, a long necked instrument with three strings that sounds a little like a guitar. It is played alone or in groups, especially during our many festivals. During these festivals, you can see lots of special dances. especially the one where Russian men kneel close to the ground and kick their legs very high!

Russia is a land of great beauty and variety. It stretches from eastern Europe to the Pacific Ocean, with plains and forests in between. When you visit, be sure to allow lots of time so you can
