The troupe first kicked to life in 1925 as the "Missouri Rockets" making their show business debut in St. Louis, the realization of a long-time dream of their creator, Russell Markert. Brought to Radio City Music Hall by the legendary theatre impresario S.L. "Roxy" Rothafel, the "Roxyettes" performed at the theatre's opening night in 1932. For seventy-five years, the "Radio City Rockettes", have been thrilling audiences with their eye-high kicks on the Music Hall's Great Stage and stages around the world, truly becoming an American tradition.

The illusion of uniform height is maintained to this day by putting the tallest dancers in the center, and gradually decreasing the height until the shortest women are at either end.

Rockette costumes are almost as stunning as their precision footwork. Top Hollywood designer Bob Mackie, legendary artist Erte and renowned musical director Vincent Minnelli have all lent their design expertise, creating glamorous costumes for the world-famous dance company.

One of the most beloved scenes from the Radio City Christmas Spectacular is the legendary "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers". Choreographed by Rockettes' founder Russell Markert, the quintessential precision dance number was first performed at the Music Hall in 1933, and continues to be an audience favorite today.
