Description
Born in Scotland, William Kidd later settled in New York. He set out on his ship, "Adventure Galley," in 1696. He refused to attack English ships, but his crew mutinied and joined the pirates. Captain Kidd later seized a large ship with much treasure, which he his from other pirates and the English government. The ship which he hid, Oueda, has never been found and is the source for one of the many tales of hidden treasures.
