Description
This tramcar is one of over 3000 supplied to nearly 50 municipal and company tramway operators in the UK, by Dick Kerr, later the United Electric Car Company of Preston. The basic design appeared in 1900 and with variations in the stair position and type of truck being produced up to 1920. Many lasted to the end of tramway operations in the early 50's. Some were then modified and used as Public Works Vehicles. There are a number of these trams preserved in England both open-top and enclosed versions; at Crick, Derbyshire and the London Transport Museum, Covent Garden.
