Description
The Cessnock District Rescue Squad was formed with the aim of supplying specialised equipment and trained personnel to co-operate and assist police, ambulance and Fire Brigade in Cessnock/Kurri Kurri and surrounding districts in the event of road, rail, aircraft, industrial, domestic and natural emergencies. Available 24 hours a day, they work at the scene of an emergency under the command of the senior officer present of whichever service is in charge. In its 30-year history, it has been called on for cliff rescue, cutting victims free from car wreck- age, providing floodlights at a fire and simple things like securing a roof after a severe storm.
In April 1992, the Cessnock Rescue Squad received a NSW Police Citation in recognition of assistance (totalling over 148 man-hours over a three day period) given to police in a Bellbird murder case.
