Laurel and Hardy are unique in their position as one of the most distinctive, enduring and recognizable film teams in the history of cinema. They starred in 105 two-reelers and feature films which have played in every corner of the world in theaters and on television. After appearing together in over a dozen films in the mid-1920s as independent players, the two actors, Laurel, a native of England, and Hardy, a native of Georgia, were officially paired as a team in the 1927 two-reeler film, "Hats Off." It was produced on nitrate film stock which disintegrates over time, and all copies of this film have since vanished.
