Then, he pounded on his chest, it actually echoed! "Beautiful," exclaimed the Scarecrow. But to the Tin Man it wasn't beautiful at all, his chest was as empty as a kettle. "They didn't give me a heart," he explained. "No heart," gasped Dorothy and the Scarecrow in disbelief. "No heart," said the Tin Man sadly.

Dorothy and the Scarecrow suggested he join them on their journey along the yellow brick road, to see the Wizard of Oz. If anyone could fulfill his dreams the great and powerful Wizard could.

In the end, the Tin Man learned he already possessed the ability to love. He had demonstrated his love for Dorothy when he bravely helped free her from the Wicked Witch of the West's castle. When he returned to Oz, the Wizard awarded him with a symbolic heart pendant which he proudly wears on his chest!
