Description
When Uncle Sam called for a new kind of utility vehicle at the onset of World War II, Ford answered with the versatile GPW. Designed to strict military specifications, this unique machine combined a lightweight but rugged 1/4-ton chassis, a powerful 4-cylinder engine that could easily haul a crew of three and 660 lb. of payload, a handy fold-down wind-shield, and four-wheel drive. More than 275,000 GPWs saw service in every major theater of the war, hauling equipment, transporting wounded, and functioning as mobile operations bases.
