PEARL HARBOR ATTACK
Sunday, December 7, 1941 7:55 AM pacific standard time
It was a day the world will never forget. The Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor and awoke a "sleeping giant" that altered the course of world history. In a deliberate, well-calculated strike, the Empire of Japan violently and mercilessly propelled America into the Second World War, sealing its position as an imperial power!
Unaware of impending doom, Pearl Harbor was about to begin yet another typically peaceful Sunday in 'paradise.' But, just 220 miles north of the main island of Oahu, the first strike wave of 183 torpedo bombers, dive-bombers and fighter planes, were taking off from the aircraft carriers Akagi, Kaga, Hiryu, Soryu. Shokaku and Zuikaku, flying toward their date with destiny. At 7:55 AM pacific standard time on that fateful morning, Japan attacked
Americans and Hawaiians were awakened by thunderous explosions Japanese attack planes bombed and strafed U S. ships, planes. buildings and personnel. Taken completely by surprise, American sailors and soldiers scrambled is scrambled to their posts to defend themselves against the Rising Sun's aerial onslaught. Like expert surgeons Japanese pilots aimed precisely for "Battleship Row" near Ford Island, sinking or damaging the USS California, USS West Virginia USS Maryland, USS Oklahoma USS Tennessee USS Nevada and USS Arizona. Worst of all was the loss of the USS Arizona, which sank with over 1200 crewmen on board. While one portion of the attack force destroyed Battleship Row, other Japanese planes targeted the Army Air Corps airfields and installations.
By early afternoon, the Pacific Fleet and Army units were devastated. Inflamed by Japan's blatant attack, America then dedicated itself to achieving nothing less than total vindication. By September 1945, the United States had accomplished its goal.
