Description

There is a great tactical advantage to being able to drop in unannounced. It is this element of surprise that makes the U.S. Airborne Ranger HALO Parachutists so valuable a fighting force. With their aircraft leveling out at up to 40,000 feet, these Airborne Rangers deploy High Altitude Low Opening, or HALO, parachutes in order to fall upon the enemy undetected. In most cases, they do not open chutes until they have fallen to an altitude of only 2,000 feet. In some cases, they wait even longer. It takes nerves of steel, more than a little luck, and some very special equipment.

As the aircraft climbs to drop altitude and rises above 10,000 feet, Rangers must 'plug' into the on-board oxygen system. Then, just prior to to bailout, the air hose is detached from the airplane and re-connected to the Ranger's oxygen bottle. This allows each Ranger to 'catch his breath' as he plunges thousands of feet in free-fall. Materiel can also be dropped free-fall using parachutes equipped with automatic openers. Once they have made it to the ground undetected, each Ranger links up with his team, checks equipment, and moves on to secure the objective.

GI Joe Classic Collection - U.S. Airborne Ranger - Includes: assault helmet, goggles, oxygen mask, oxygen hose, oxygen bottle with pouch, camo fatigues, boots, survival knife, parachute backpack, colt ar-15 assault rifle - Kenner 1996 No. 81238 - Figure has black hair and eyebrows.

The box has creasing, minor bends and scuffing.
