TIMELESS COLLECTION™
FIGURES AND ACCESSORIES REMINISCENT OF THE GOLDEN AGE OF G.I. JOE (1964-1978) GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE
Robert Edward Lee was one of the country's greatest military leaders and the commander of the Confederate forces during the Civil War. The youngest son of "Light Horse Harry," a cavalry leader and governor of Virginia, Robert was born into Virginia's ruling class family but lacked the advantages of wealth despite his aristocratic lineage.
Lee obtained an appointment to West Point and was made corps adjutant, the highest rank a cadet could attain, before graduating second in his class. He began his military career in the elite engineering corps, then served as captain in the Mexican War, where he demonstrated brilliance and courage that prompted his commanding officer to call Lee, "the very best soldier I ever saw in the field."
With the mounting crisis between north and south, Lee was ordered to lead the federal forces in the suppression of John Brown's attempt of slave rebellion at Harper's Ferry. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Lee accepted the commission as head of Virginia's military forces, in defense of his native state. He managed to subdue the Union Army at the first Battle of Bull Run, but Lee quickly realized that an all-out war was just beginning.
