Hello! from West Germany, nestled in the heart of Europe, Almost everywhere you look you'll find interesting old buildings, statues and fountains. As you sail along the Rhine River, you can see beautiful castles from the Middle Ages. Getting around is easy because our public transportation is very good. You can even ride a train to work!

We love holidays and celebrations. Did you know that the tradition of decorating Christmas trees started here? In Fall comes Oktoberfest, a time of dancing, singing, and dressing in folk costumes similar to the one I'm wearing. Everywhere you can hear music, including the oompah of the brass bands as the musicians march by in their lederhosen (leather shorts) West Germany is full of good things to eat. too, especially sausages of all kinds, and delicious cheeses to go with them. If you have a sweet tooth, follow your nose to a Konditorei or pastry shop.

Fussball (soccer) is the most popular sport, but Germans also enjoy sailing, rafting, hiking along the beautiful trails and, of course, skiing in the world-famous Bavarian Alps.

Art and culture are held in high esteem here. We are proud of the many famous composers from Germany-Beethoven, Brahms, and Wagner to name a few We have 1,500 museums that display art and historical treasures. There's even a museum for cuckoo clocks!

West Germans are known as a friendly people, so you will feel at home when you visit Auf Wiedersetien for now as I leave you with some German words to practice for fun:
