George Burns and Gracie Allen were one of the most popular and long lived comedy acts in show business. They were popular headliners in Vaudeville in the 1920's. When radio emerged as a new and important part of the entertainment scene, George and Gracie were among the pioneers in that medium, bringing their charming and hilarious repartee into millions of American homes during the 30's and 40's. They subsequently moved to television, and their time-honored comedy routines graced our TV screens until Gracie's retirement in 1958. George always had the dual role of on-screen narrator of the proceedings and charming straight man for Gracie's unique scatter-brained comic genius. The TV series continued for another year after Gracie's retirement, and although Gracie was no longer seen on screen, she was always fondly remembered as the other half of America's most enduring and beloved comedy team.
