As a childhood chore, CHARBROIL had to heat the water pipes in the family basement with a blowtorch to keep them from freezing and bursting in the winter. As a teenager, he worked in the mills on the Great Lakes, feeding coal into blast furnaces. When the Army recruiting sergeant asked him what type of job he was interested in, he replied, "What have you got with open flames?" Since then, he has become one of the premiere flame weapons specialists on the G.I. JOE team.

The man-portable flamethrower is an incendiary device designed to project a long, controllable stream of ignited flammable liquid. Unfortunately, it can be as dangerous for the operator as it is to enemy combatants, so only the most expertly trained soldiers still utilize this psychologically devastating weapon. CHARBROIL uses his flamethrower against battlefield fortifications, bunkers, and other protected emplacements to persuade the enemy to exit rapidly and surrender. He is exceedingly precise with his targets to avoid collateral damage.
