The brave men and women of the United States Coast Guard have protected our coastline for over two centuries. In 1790, the earliest version of the Coast Guard was formed, and to this day it remains the primary authority on U.S. waters. Its oldest mission is to enforce all applicable laws on, under, and above the waters subject to U.S. jurisdiction, with a focus on intercepting contraband, combating illegal immigration, search and rescue and enforcing policies that protect wildlife and other marine resources. On a typical day, the Coast Guard conducts over 125 maritime law enforcement boardings, Identifies over BO violations of the law and seizes over $8 million in contraband.
