The Jungle Book (1967), based on Rudyard Kipling's classic tale of Mowgli the Man-cub being raised by animals in the jungle, was the last animated feature personally supervised by Walt Disney. Walt told his team... We're going to tell the story of The Jungle Book the Disney way. Walt made sure that his version of Mowgli's adventures in the jungle would be light, fun and full of exciting, musical characters. The breakout star of the film is Baloo, the carefree bear who teaches Mowgli to forget about his worries and focus on the bare necessities of life. Baloo becomes Mowgli's best friend in the jungle and bravely protects him from the ferocious tiger Shere Khan before watching Mowgli return to the Man-village. While sad to see his friend ultimately leave the jungle, Baloo states... But I still think he'd have made one swell bear.
