Department 56 Rock Creek Mill House The Original Snow Village Lighted Building

Just imagine... snow-laden trees, wreaths at the windows, and welcome mats out. These images have come to represent the charming buildings and soft glowing lights of The Original Snow Village. A holiday outing to a small river town was the inspiration for The Original Snow Village. The hope was to recreate the feeling the town conveyed to everyone that night.

Each piece in The Original Snow Village is handcrafted of ceramic, individually hand painted, and fired with a glazed finish. Extensive research contributes to the charm and detail of each piece. Cast into the mold is the Department 56% logo-a guarantee of authenticity. Every year pieces are retired from production and the molds broken. This limits the number of pieces and allows for new additions. Special pieces often are created for The Original Snow Village. These include year of production pieces, event pieces, buildings that recognize our American architecture, and special licenses, each adding to the character of the Village and capturing the imagination.
