This is the setting for Alpine Village Series, introduced in 1986. This charming European Village, nestled on an Alpine mountainside, surrounded by icy streams and crystal-clear lakes, is home to many prosperous shops. Hilltop chalets and establishments bearing German names line the snow-laden roads and Villagers delight in winter activities that come with mountain living, like skiing, snow-shoeing, and hiking. With a little imagination, you can almost hear the Alpenhorn echoing through the mountain air and the holiday music floating through the Village streets.

Characterized by the matte finish, extensive research contributes to the charm and detail of each individually hand painted, porcelain piece. Fired onto the base of every house is the Department 56 logo- a guarantee of authenticity. Every year pieces are retired from production and the molds broken. This limits the number of pieces and allows for new additions.
