Code 3 Willow Springs Fire Department Engine 601 No. 12314

The Willow Springs Fire Department covers a 15 square mile radius consisting of single family dwellings to heavy industry. The I&M canal and the Des Plaines river along with the Santa Fe Railroad separate the town of Willow Springs in half. The department consists of 34 members, 30 of which are firefighters/paramedics. The department became ALS. and staffed 24 hours a day in 1997 due to the persistence and hard work of Chief Robert Kristie.

Willow Springs purchased the Luverne due to the fact that the short wheel base and the 300 h.p. Cummings Diesel Engine made ease of the winding, hilly roads. The engine's overall length is 27'4". Engine 601 is a 1996 Luverne with a 1250 g.p.m. "Waterous" pump with a 1000 gallon tank. The 2 scene flood lights and multiple outlets are powered by a 6800 watt Yamaha generator located on top of the engine. Lightweight hard suction hose was added for the very few unhydranted areas of the district. The engine worked out so well, that in 1997 the department purchased another Luverne for a pumper/squad, squad 605. Also in the fleet are two road rescue Ford ambulances, a 1998 and a 1999. The reserve engine is a 1982 Ford custom cab followed by two rescue boats. Due to arrive in December of 2000 is a 95' tower ladder made by E-ONE.

The reason for the name Kyle on the front of the engine is to represent the untimely death of a future firefighter, the son of one of the longest employed members of the department.
