Description

The Balladeers

DURING THE 18TH CENTURY, taverns provided both meals and lodging. The patrons provided the entertainment. Travelers often carried small musical instruments with them. If they chose to leave their instruments at home, the tavern keeper usually had a fiddle or something that could be borrowed or rented for a modest fee. Today professional musicians in colorful costumes perform tunes from the 18th century for guests in Colonial Williamsburg taverns.
