Bess Wallace Truman came to the White House with her husband Harry. She was thoroughly schooled in Washington protocol since her husband had served two terms in the United States Senate and as Vice President. Attendees at official functions were impressed with her graciousness and charm. A major renovation of the White House took place during Truman's term and Blair House, across the street, became home to the First Family; the Truman's moved back to the White House in the spring of 1952.

Box has wear, stains. One of her sleeve ribbons has come off. These Madame Alexander dolls were purchased from a doll dealer and kept in a clean, climate-controlled environment. The dolls were stored properly in boxes. The stringing on these dolls is currently intact.
