A beautiful young girl with long dark hair and sparkling brown eyes lives in the desert of the American southwest. She is a Navajo, or as she would say, Dine which means "the people". Her father is the chieftain; the Navajo call him the headman or Naatani. She lives comfortably in a traditional house called a hogan. It is made of logs, tree bark, and mud. The doorway of the hogan faces east so that she can begin each day by greeting the rising sun.
