In the golden woods of Lothlörien stood the mirror of Galadriel: a silver basin filled with water and held in a stone pedestal carved like a branching tree. This mirror revealed "many things...things that were ...things that are...and some things that have not yet come to pass." She showed Frodo a horrific vision of the future that would be realized if he failed in his mission. But Galadriel also gave Frodo the gift of wise advice: "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future."
