Description
Purchased by Texaco from the U.S. government in February 1947, this Douglas DC-3C entered civilian life after serving in the Army Transport Division as a C-47. Affectionately dubbed the "Gooney Bird" by military personnel, C-47s played a versatile and vital role in World War II carrying troops, supplies and equipment. Texaco's Executive Service operated this particular DC-3C out of New York with pilots H. W. Pember and H. W. Hulford logging 797 hours and 122,000 miles before the company sold the plane to Pure Oil Co. in June 1949.
