Description
General George S. Patton was one of the greatest and most courageous warriors in the history of combat. Flamboyant, never predictable, controversial, his rapid aggressive style drove him to victory in battle. Always a professional soldier, he was a commander who could be trusted for getting the job done effectively. First entering the action of World War II in North Africa in Operation Torch, he drove the Germans out of the region and north across the Mediterranean Sea eventually overtaking Sicily.
Given command of the Army after D-day, he continued his drive through France and onward into Germany. After the siege of Bastogne, he payed tribute to his troops by saying:
"No other army in the world could do this. No other soldiers could do what these men are doing. God, I'm proud of them."
He will always be admired by soldiers and civilians alike.
