Description
Lionel Outfit No. 705 was considered one of the finest model train sets at its introduction in 1940 and is still prized by collectors. It was headed up by a No. 701 Steam Switcher based on actual blueprints for the Pennsylvania Railroad's B6 Steam Switcher.
The B6 switchers shuffled back and forth along the maze of switches and tracks as crews carefully coupled together cars for both freight and passenger trains. Although those cars would eventually be hauled cross-country by some of the most powerful locomotives in the world, it was the mighty little switcher that started them on their journey.
