After 1,487 NHL games, "The Great One" called it a career on April 18th, 1999 and played his final game with the New York Rangers against the Pittsburgh Penguins. After the game ended, Gretzky circled on the ice, removing one glove and waving farewell to the appreciative crowd. Gretzky remains the leading scorer in NHL history, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1999.
