Before joining the MLB, Darvish was widely recognized as the best Japanese pitcher in the Nippon Professional Baseball league, posting 18 wins and a 1.44 ERA in his last season. Darvish is one of the most hyped up pitchers to come over from Japan in quite some time, stemming from his large frame, flowing hair, and his very public persona. In 2012, Darvish signed a contract with the Texas Rangers and his first full season with the team was a success. In his first month of the season, Darvish was named AL Rookie of the Month, accumulating a 4-0 record, with a 2.18 ERA, and 33 strikeouts.
