Description
Aside from being the manufacturer of powerful, finely engineered motorcars, Mercedes-Benz also has a rich and respected tradition in producing buses, wagons and trucks. One of the legendary trucks, produced between the years 1930 and 1936, was the Mercedes-Benz 260 Stuttgart L. Equipped with a 6-cylinder in-line 53 horse- power engine that displaced 3581 cc, it could attain speeds up to 68 kilometers per hour. The Stuttgart L. was available in eight versions during those years (designated L-I through L-VIII), and they were used for a wide range of activities-from commercial trucks to civic ser- vice duties, such as ambulance and fire brigades.
One important truck in a fire department's fleet was a Spotlight/Generator truck. Equipped with powerful spotlights, the trucks were essential in helping fire fighters direct their activities to the most crucial places in a blaze. Also, the portable generator was needed to power a variety of pumps delivering the water to the hoses and water guns of the brigade. Now, a beautiful Mercedes-Benz L5 is outfitted as a Spotlight/Generator Truck in an extraordinary die-cast model, painted in the authentic colors used by German fire departments. Complete with five rotating spotlights on the top of the vehicle, a siren horn mounted in front of the grille, fire extinguishers, wire spools and a crew cab that held four or five firemen, the 1932 Mercedes- Benz L5 Spotlight/Generator Truck is part of The International Fire Engine Collection: The Specialized. Vehicles Edition. This authentic replica is produced by-and available only from-Matchbox Collectibles.
