Description
The name of Pickfords has been synonymous with transport since the company was founded in Cheshire, England in 1646. The first mode of transport used was pack horses which in turn moved up to horse drawn wagons and canal boats.
Motor vehicles were introduced in 1903, various vehicles were experimented with but the first entered on the fleet list was a Wallis & Stevens 3-Ton steam tractor which was used to tow the trailers previously pulled by horse.
This 1929 Garrett Steam Wagon is typical of the type of steam powered vehicle that were used by Pickfords in the 1920's and 30's. The Garrett was capable of carrying loads of up to 6 tons and was noted for it's unique cab design and its powerful and smooth running engine which featured poppet valves. Scale 1:59
