The Anticipation of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
To all the Spider-fans who enjoyed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, there is good news for you—the expected sequel is finally coming out! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the film that many of us have been waiting for for quite some time, will be released in the United States on June 2, 2023.
But those who are a bit out of the loop, keep scrolling; we have all the information about the newest Spider-Man release.
What is the Spider-Verse?
The Spider-Verse is a Marvel Comics 2014–2015 comic book storyline that features multiple alternative versions of Spider-Man. The Spider-Verse storyline contains different Spider-Men and Spider-Women from alternate Marvel universes. The various Spider-Man have met and fought together in the Spider-Verse.
In 2018, the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse was released. This movie, produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony Pictures Animation in association with Marvel Entertainment, follows the story of Miles Morales, a teenager who becomes the new Spider-Man and joins other Spider-People from various parallel universes to save his universe from Kingpin.
Into the Spider-Verse was the first movie in the Spider-Verse storyline, but it won’t be the last, because on top of Across the Spider-Verse, there will also be another Spider-Man movie, Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is set to be released in March 2024.
When did this happen?
Before the release of Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, Sony has already begun developing Across the Spider-Verse. In November 2019, "Across the Spider-Verse" was officially announced. Seven months later, animation began to work on the movie.
Across the Spider-Verse was initially scheduled to be released in April 2022, but due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, this got postponed. So for some fans that were aware of Across the Spider-Verse from the very beginning, this might seem like a bit of a wait, but luckily now we’re only a few months away to see more of Miles Morales.
What details do we know about Across the Spider-Verse?
Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) is unexpectedly approached by his crush/best friend Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.
Aside from Moore and Steinfield, coming back to their roles as Kid-Arachnid and Ghost-Spider, we’ll also count with the voice acting skills of Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Luna Lauren Velez, Jason Schwartzman, Issa Rae, Brian Tyree Henry, Daniel Kaluuya, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, and Shea Whigham.
One of the most interesting things about the film is perhaps the fact that there are going to be various visual styles and animations used throughout the film to represent the different visual styles in each of the six universes visited by the characters. This fusion of different art styles is one of the things people are looking forward to the most about the movie. Although combining different animation styles has been done before, different communities such as the drawing community, and art communities are excited to see what is to come, especially as Into the Spider-Verse also received a lot of praise for its aesthetics.
