Description
Triceratops: The large Triceratops ("three-horned face") was a member of the ceratopsian family- a group of armored dinosaurs that had horns on their heads and beak-like mouths with razor sharp teeth. The armor-like ridge surrounding the Triceratops' neck, its three meter-long horns, and its rough leathery skin were used to defend against large, carnivorous dinosaurs. This prehistoric animal lived 65-70 million years ago in Western North America.
Muttaburrasaurus: Discovered only as recently as 1981 in northeastern Australia, the Muttaburrasaurus walked the earth about 120 million years ago. This prehistoric creature was about 23 feet long and stood in an upright position with shortened forelegs. it has a high bump on its forehead, thought to be used in headbutting fights between male animals. Most interestingly, the Muttaburrasaurus had small round bony plates or scales along its body. Scientists think these scales may have been a type of light body armor.
