The history of the HERMANN Teddy Bears started in 1913. On October 24, 1913 the two brothers Artur d Max and their sister Adelheid began the manufacturing of their first HERMANN Teddy Bear in the small village of Neufang in the mountains of Thuringia near the town Sonneberg which was at that time the Toy Capital of the World. In 1920 Max Hermann founded his own Teddy Bear company. He moved to Sonneberg, where he became a well known tedd ybear maker. His Teddy Bears were exported around the globe.

After 1945 Germany was divided into East and West. With the escalation of the cold war and the emerging Communist Regime in East Germany Max Hermann fled from Sonneberg to Coburg. In Coburg / Bavaria he started anew and continued the old tradition of his Teddy Bears. In the year 155 his son Rolf-G. was Max's successor. Rolf-G. died in 1995. His children Dr. Ursula and Martin Hermann are the todays presidents of the old German Teddy Bear company, founded by Max Hermann 1920, which is now named HERMANN- Spielwaren GmbH, Coburg.
