Description
According to company legend, the Wienermobile™ was born 'in what must have been a flash of brilliance and hearty laughter.' The original 13-foot-long hot dog car was the sales promotion brainchild of Carl Mayer, nephew of the company founder, Oscar F. Mayer.
The Wienermobile made its first appearance in 1936 in Janesville, Wisconsin. After World War II, a new Wienermobile was built for each plant location. In the 1950s, sound was added, and the Wienermobile was featured on TV ads through the '60s. It had limited use in the 1970s.
When the Wienermobile returned for a 50th Anniversary tour (1986), public response was so overwhelming that the company decided to build new ones. This ornament is based on the 2000 model, whose speed is listed as 'somewhere between a speeding bullet and ketchup pouring from the bottle.'
