In today's U.S. Air Force, pilots fly at supersonic speed using highly-sophisticated navigational and weapons systems. Their mission: to maintain America's air superiority. The constant upkeep required to maintain these multimillion dollar flying machines at peak performance levels is an extensive job, and one that is absolutely necessary to achieve their goal. That's why the jab must fall on the competent shoulders of specialized maintenance teams headed-up by the Crew Chief. Since any oversight can lead to a malfunction or glitch that could endanger the pilot, the Chief makes sure his pilots have a perfectly operating aircraft. He coordinates his team to ensure the plane is properly fueled, armed with the correct bombs, missiles and ammunition, and that hundreds of miles of wires and electronics are functioning correctly. The pilot may fly the plane on mission, but it is the crews' dedication to the aircraft that allows him to do so. That is the reason the crew chief says he is allowing the pilot to board his plane.
