Description
Manned with equipment such as the SCR-625 mine detector, engineers from the U.S. Army 317th Engineer Battalion worked diligently to clear the pathways for the Allied advance in the European Theater. Based on technology developed by Polish engineers in 1942, the SCR-625 could detect any type of buried metal up to a foot deep in the sand and soil. Not only did these courageous soldiers save countless American lives, they also played a critical role in the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany.
