In pursuit of peace against enemy invaders, Americans fought with everything they had: courage, strength and determination. After years of battle, Germany finally surrendered on May 8, 1945, followed by the Japanese less than four months later. Victory had been achieved, and freedom had been preserved. Finally, it was time to go home.

Returning home to their family and friends, American servicemen received a hero's welcome for their gallant efforts on such distant shores. Some returned with souvenirs from battle, others brought gifts for their loved ones in time for the holiday season. And all were thankful to be back.
