The paratroopers of the101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) go in behind enemy lines from the sky. Flying above hostile territory, they jump from their transport planes and plummet toward the ground, keenly aware of the dangers inherent in launching themselves into the air with nothing but a thin piece of fabric to bring them safely to the ground. Once they land, they engage the enemy in combat. This is their mission, as it has been since the division was activated in 1942. Known as the Screaming Eagles, the 101st has a proud history that includes D-Day, when they jumped in before the amphibious invasion forces landed, to secure the exits from the beachheads and prevent German reinforcements from entering these areas. Paratroopers are trained at the Jump School in Fort Benning, where they are thoroughly trained for airborne assault with ground training, realistic jumps from special towers, and, finally, actual jumps from planes. As their creed states, they are elite troopers, sky troopers: proud and glorious soldiers who literally jump into the very heart of battle, gliding to Earth under a full canopy to fight for freedom and justice wherever these values are threatened.
