Weary Willie was a sad clown character created by Emmett Kelly Sr., inspired by the "hobo" or homeless people during the Great Depression. Kelly developed the character in the 1920s, but it gained popularity in the 1930s, resonating with people struggling with economic hardship. Weary Willie's signature look included ragged clothes, an upside-down smile, and a melancholic demeanor.
